Mother's Trees

Whether I’m spending time with my mom or Geordie's, I am always drawn to photographing the trees in their gardens and the landscapes they overlook. I use two very specific lenses that imbue each exposure with an almost ethereal beauty. Trees are ever-present in my experiences; from Geordie's hospital room window, for example, I have a clear view of a particular tree that lives vividly in my memory. It brings me happiness and comfort as Geordie receives his treatments, as it offers its ancient wisdom and nurturing presence.

Later, when I review these pictures, it's hard to tell which trees belong to the island or the suburbs of Boston. But in each of them are an appreciation for the wild and the natural world that Geordie and I share, a feeling that resonates in our relationships with our mothers.
