Creative Health Education

We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.   ~ Native American Proverb

Creativity is an essential yet often the most overlooked aspect of our wellbeing, much in the same way as our physical and social-emotional health are. It is so deeply embedded in what makes us humans, that throughout history we have recognized the healing benefits of creative expression and engagement with nature.

Despite this, many of us today are siloed from creative, cultural, and nature-based experiences, and this lack of creative engagement has shown to be the the root of many mental health issues. I bring Creative Health Education to schools, hospitals, and nonprofits to give children and adults the opportunity to reconnect with their natural creativity to lead happier, healthier lives. We give our over-active amygdala (fear center) a break so that we can reconnect to ourselves, others, and our surroundings with curiosity, wonder, and aliveness.

Like in homeopathy, daily doses of creativity can stimulate the body’s healing mechanisms. I studied with the late John Diamond, M.D. whose work offers a powerful approach to health and life, and combines a wide array of medical, creative, cultural, spiritual, and philosophical practices centered on raising our Life Energy, the healing power that resides within each of us.

For myself and those I work with, I am looking for a type of creative engagement that sparks a healing response. After all, we know that not all forms of creativity can be healthy for us - take a look at some historical pigments that today we know are poisons. This spark might be different for each person, might not be obvious, and might have remained hidden, but the potential to catch us is always there.
